Create In Me A Clean Heart
David did not ask God to fix his image. He asked Him to fix his heart. There is a difference.
Create in me
a clean heart.
Not a better image.
Not a cleaned up story.
A new heart,
made by the only One
who makes things new.
Wash what I cannot.
Renew what I broke.
Start in me again.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
Psalm 51:10 (KJV)

What does Psalm 51:10 mean?
David asks God to create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him. The word is create, not repair. He is asking God to do in him what he cannot do for himself.
Who wrote Psalm 51:10 and why?
David wrote it after his sin was exposed and he stopped running from it. It is a prayer of honest repentance, which is why it still fits anyone who wants a fresh start on the inside.
